About the event

Overview

This August, join 75 SHOTS Pocket Cinema at WorldPride Amsterdam for a week of filmmaking, conversations, and pop-up cinema. From 2–8 August, we'll bring together queer filmmakers, refugees, migrants, artists, and allies through participatory Pocket Cinema workshops, secret outdoor screenings of films from the Global South and its diasporas, and our Human Rights Conference panel, Storyteller Defenders: Making Censored Voices Visible.

Meet members of our international community, contribute to a collective short film, discover powerful stories rarely seen on screen, and help build new connections across borders.

Workshops

On August 2nd, Solidarity in Motion: Pocket Cinema is a participatory filmmaking programme created with and for predominantly queer refugees and diaspora communities in Amsterdam. Using only smartphones, participants will learn Pocket Cinema techniques while exploring storytelling as a tool for visibility, solidarity, and collective expression. Materials created during the workshops will be edited into a collaborative short film that premieres during the Under the Radar screenings.

Sound as Resistance - Part 1

Explore voice recording, ambient sound, interviews, and spoken-word storytelling using smartphones.

Visual Representation in Public Space - Part 2

Create cinematic images throughout Amsterdam using accessible Pocket Cinema techniques.

Screenings

From 2–8 August, Under the Radar transforms public spaces across Amsterdam into pop-up outdoor cinemas.

The program features short films from 75 SHOTS Pocket Cinema's Cinema Feast Collection, showcasing queer stories from the Global South and its diasporas in unexpected locations. The final screening will premiere the collective short film created during the Solidarity in Motion workshops.

Locations remain secret until 24 hours before each screening. Click here to reveal the next secret screening .

In Conversation

Storyteller Defenders: Making Censored Voices Visible

Featuring Karin Hazé, Unoma Azuah, Lily Alexandre, Aaron Pollard, Carl Collison, The UnClassified, Prince Frimpong, Mwambaba, and Juju, moderated by Yaël Pool. Across the Global South, many queer storytellers continue to create under censorship. Smartphones have transformed access to filmmaking, allowing activists, refugees, migrants, and diaspora communities to turn lived experience into powerful cinema using devices they already carry. Drawing on footage created during the week's workshops, the panel explores ethical storytelling, collective authorship, censorship, and transnational queer narratives while demonstrating how accessible filmmaking can challenge invisibility and expand whose stories are seen and heard.

Support Our Journey

We are honoured to have received the WorldPride Empowerment Fund to deliver Solidarity in Motion workshops for queer refugees and to have been selected from more than 400 international applicants to present at the Human Rights Conference. These opportunities make our program possible, but they do not cover international travel or visa costs for our members. Every donation helps bring our team to Amsterdam so they can facilitate workshops, share their stories, participate in the conference, and connect with our global community.

Donate here to support our journey.
